FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions)

Hey! You found it! The holy grail of tattoo shop questions and answers!! We’ve put together this easy to understand FAQ section to try to help you out when looking at getting a tattoo and/or piercing. It also makes it easier for us too…

How much does a tattoo cost?

Well that’s a vague question. There are so many variables in tattoos that it is impossible to give an accurate estimate without you physically being in front of an artist with the design for your tattoo. We suggest looking at the artist portfolios found right here on this very site, find someone who’s style matches your idea and then come on in and talk with them. They are more than happy to assist you in getting a design ready and getting you a close estimate on what to expect.

I’m not 18 but my mom says it’s ok. Can I get a tattoo?

Sorry, the law in North Carolina states that no one under the age of 18 can be tattooed. Parent consent won’t help you here. It’s ok though; you’ll be 18 before you know it and can come see us then!

What about piercings? Can I do that if I’m under 18?

Sure! All you need is a parent or legal guardian with proper ID to be with you for the piercing. Some piercings are excluded from this. For example, you must be 18 for nipple piercings! Male or female.

Do you do white ink tattoos?

Sure. Some things to take into consideration though before getting a white ink tattoo. White ink doesn’t last very long and can be very hard to see. Usually, once healed, a white ink tattoo will look like a scar. TRUST YOUR ARTIST! They may give you a reason why this kind of tattoo won’t work for you or suggest a different artist for the job. We want you to be happy after all…

What about hand tattoos, like the mustache tattoo on my finger? That looks popular…

Again, this is possible sure but most likely will not last long. Fingers, palms and the sides of the hand have a hard time holding ink. They will most likely need to be touched up often unlike any other tattoo. Your artist will give you all the rundown on the “risks” of these tattoos before you sit down in the chair.

Can I get my baby’s ears pierced by you?

Unfortunately our piercer is afraid of babies and runs away every time he sees one in fear that they are here to take over his brain. OK well maybe that’s not true but we don’t pierce babies. As much as we don’t want people getting pierced buy the horrifying “piercing gun” it seems to be the only option if you have to get your babies ears pierced without their consent. For earlobe piercings, we will start them as early as 13 with parent consent. The reason for this is so they can understand completely the piercing process and healing process. Also, the ears and nose never stops growing. Even if that piercing was perfectly centered, you could have a risk for migration over the years that would place that piercing towards the bottom of the lobe.  All other piercings start at 15 with parent consent. Nipples are still 18. No exceptions.

What happens if it gets infected?

Infections or allergic reactions are VERY RARE. More often than not, what you perceive as an infection is actually an irritation. If you think there is an issue, please come speak to your artist. They will be able to tell you if it’s something to be worried about or not. If there is an actual infection, a physician will help you get healthy, hopefully without allowing personal prejudice against tattoos or tattoo artists to cloud their professional responsibility. Let your artist/piercer know of any allergies prior to having any work done.

Can I tan or go to the beach?

Let’s just put it this way. It’s not a good idea at all. Sun (real or fake) can and will ruin and/or fade a tattoo. Ocean and/or pool water can also have bad effects on piercings and tattoos. The best thing to do is avoid these situations until completely healed. It doesn’t take that long, you can do it. We have faith in you!

Can I just walk in and get tattooed?

This is common since the popularity of shows on TV that glorify bad tattoos. There is no guarantee that you can walk in to any tattoo shop and expect to get tattooed. It is always a good idea to make an appointment. That’s the only way you can be sure you will get tattooed. To get an appointment it does require a deposit and for you to know what you want. We can’t choose your design for you all the time. If we did that, there would be some funny stuff out there for sure.

My friend said he can do it for half that price at his house! Should I just do that?

OK so this one seems a little far-fetched but, this is a popular question. Let’s think about this. A tattoo shop is a sterile environment and a couch in your friend’s apartment has probably seen way more action than the back seat of a 70’s Chevelle in it’s prime. I would think you would maybe have a good idea of the smart decision. If that doesn’t help, just think about you friend or their roommate sitting there naked eating spaghetti and meatballs after a 3 day bender with no shower. Do you have that image in your head? Do you still want to get tattooed there? Remember, good tattoos aren’t cheap and cheap tattoos aren’t good. But if you do decide to take the chance on it still, we do offer great cover-ups!

Are Tattoos addictive?

No. No they are not. There is no additive in the ink that makes them addictive and you are not being brainwashed with subliminal messages in the music that plays in the tattoo shop (ok well maybe the music part happens but that’s it). Tattoos are a form of expression, not something you need to get through your day. If you don’t get one every day, you will not go through withdrawals. It will be ok. I promise.

Can my kids come with me?

Well, answering that one can be tricky. We like kids, most of us have kids, but it is a tattoo shop. Kids are not allowed in the tattoo rooms. Sometimes there could be people in the shop that might have some colorful language. The big thing is that kids are more susceptible to things that could be floating around the shop. We clean our shop every day and do the best to keep a sterile environment, but at the end of the day, kids always seem to get in to things they shouldn’t. It would be best to have arrangements to have them stay with someone when you come in for your piercings and/or tattoos.

Can I bring my dog/cat/fish/horse/elk (or any pet) with me so you can do a portrait of them?

Absolutely not. But, unicorns are welcome!

I want a tattoo but I don’t know exactly what I want. Can you help me?

Yes we can but we need your help! If you bring us some ideas and images you would like in your tattoo, we can put something together for you that would fit the space you want your tattoo and make it look awesome! We are artists, if you give us the freedom, we can come up with a great piece for you. Just get us started with some kind of direction you want it to go in.

Can I bring in my own design?

Please do! Even if it’s a rough sketch you did to give us the idea, we will work it to be a great tattoo idea. If someone draws you something to get tattooed, that is great as well! Be original; don’t just grab a picture of someone else’s tattoo and say “I want it exactly like this”. Someone has that on their body and might have had it custom drawn for them.

Do piercings/tattoos hurt?

OK… We really don’t want to have to answer this but it does get asked regularly. Yes it hurts but it’s not terrible. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different so to tell you how bad certain places are as opposed to others is difficult. Obviously there are going to be locations on the body that are tenderer than others. The pain involved is bearable if you want some good body art.
